Teach a dog new tricks? Yes on the new show for Animal Planet !

I was lucky enough to be a part of the editing team for the series kick off  of "Fetch me a Beer" on Animal Planet. The show is about an amazing dog trainer named Zak, who can teach your dog to do just about anything. Pull you into a skateboard trick? Sure. Help you blend drinks on a special evening? No sweat. Make sure to check out the 20 episode series, produced by Powderhouse Productions, premiering in July.

WE WON!!!!!!

Discovering Radiance won a Bronze for Best Product Launch in the 2008 Mixx Awards in NYC last night!

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Yeah! Our campaign is a finalist in the Mixx Awards!

Discovering Radiance - a campaign which attempted and I dare say achieved the daunting task of turning a fabric softener brand into a beauty brand - is a finalist at the 2008 Mixx Awards in NYC next week. Check back to hear how we did - and til then you can amuse yourself with this video from the campaign..you might recognize this guy as a contestant on project runway?

I have nothing nice to say about the redline.

Has anyone noticed that the redline breaks more often and travels slower than any other line in Boston? I have.

I live in Davis Sq, Somerville and I'm working at an agency in Downtown Crossing. Typically I take the T, but today I figured what the heck, and hopped on my trusty Gary Fisher. It took me a half hour almost exactly, which is a little less time than the T takes.

I never thought it would take me LESS time than the T. Just thought I'd share.

Ps, this is my bike. Isn't he a hottie?

Jonas Brothers Rock Chevy

Becoming eco-friendly may be the biggest challenge of our generation, and Chevy has teamed up with the Jonas Brothers to get the message out to kids everywhere. Green is the way to go.

You may have already heard, but Chevy is concepting a new car called the volt. It should be released around 2010, and its going to be able to run for the first 40 miles, on electricity only. After that, you can use normal gas, and it should get about 50 MPG. It plugs right into your wall, and you charge it overnight. I CAN'T WAIT.

Through Digitas, I'm working with amazing editor/animator Joey Korenman on a series of videos promoting earth-friendly habits - including ways to limit your gas consumption now and in the future. The videos will be available online soon - and I will be sure to post a link for the launch.

This is not a trailer, it is a vehicle

This week I'm working on a video for Harvard Grad School of Education which features some really incredible people doing their best to leave this world a little better than they found it.

One student, Logan, has been particularly inspiring. A few years ago when Logan was about 19, his good friend Mario passed away from MD. His dying wish was that Logan look after his younger brother, Darius, who also suffers from the disease. Sadly, MD is 100% fatal - usually by the age of 19. Since Darius at the time was 15, he knew that he only had a few years to live.

Darius had never left his hometown of Athens, Georgia, but Logan had a big idea. What if they took a cross country trip with some friends with the goal of getting Darius' wheelchair tricked out by MTV's Pimp my Ride?! It was on. They bought a camera, rented an RV, and hit the road. 300 hours of tape and thousands of miles later, the film, entitled Darius Goes West, was ready to edit.

With the help of a major corporate sponsor, the film was entered into over 30 film fests, was awarded dozens of honors, and covered by national press outlets.

Logan made a promise to his friend Mario that he would look over Darius. He has kept that promise, and also vowed to look after every other kid with MD - he has raised millions of dollars with his award winning film - 100% of which will be donated to MD research.

Take a few minutes to watch what Logan and Darius say is not a trailer, but is a vehicle for a cure...

Tim Gunn loves Tide.

And I love Tim Gunn.

For the past few weeks I've been working on a campaign where Tim Gunn tells all of his fashion secrets. The concept is pretty cool. You pick a category, say..accessories..and you get it straight from the fashionista's mouth - what to wear, what not to wear - and why. Pretty dope. I'll be sure to post the link when it's all done.

Make it work.

Reaching out to Israel

Today Jenna and I had the pleasure of filming Sir Ben Kingsley for Nancy Spielbergs' tribute to Israel.  We headed down to the Ritz Carlton around lunch time and watched the wrap up of a photo shoot for Parade magazine in Sir Ben's hotel room. He was incredibly sweet and humble, allowing the photographer to take his time and creative freedom. When they wrapped, it was our turn.

I filmed while Jenna lit a birthday cake, and Sir Ben blew it out, while saying 'Happy Birthday Israel.' The footage will be part of a series of celebs wishing Israel happiness on thier 60th Birthday. You can read more about the film here.

inspired by the one who made you.

This April marks 10 years from the date my family's lives changed forever. My Dad, a guy's guy with a love for machinery and motors, was traveling down route 44 on his vintage custom harley, when a mini van took a left and threw him into the guard rail, taking his life.

So why the hell am I writing about that in my blog, 10 years later?

Last night i chilled with a buddy of mine, Matt Nabo, who happens to be an amazing designer/illustrator/creative. The two of us put our heads together and came up with a T-shirt design, marking the 10th anniversary of life without Danny VanderMost.

On May 10th, a bunch of my Dad's friends will ride in his memory from Middleboro, MA, where he raised his kids, to Providence RI, where he grew up. I offered to design a shirt for them to wear as a united front in his honor.

A ton of ideas ran through my head when Matt asked 'well what do you want it to look like?' My dad was a simple guy. He wore a black t-shirt, levis, and a leather jacket almost every day. He had a pet iguana, a garage full of motorcycles, and a 1972 Caddy with a custom paint job. When it comes down to it, my dad was pretty fucking cool. It wasn't going to be hard to create something that symbolized what he represented and make it wearable at the same time.

This is the preliminary design. I have to give Nabo full credit, the man is one talented artist. Check it out, maybe leave a comment or two.

Discovering Radiance

Over the past few months I have been busy cutting videos for a Downy campaign. The whole process has ben pretty innovative - user generated/totally interactive/reality tv. What?!

Here's the way it works: Three clothing designers were chosen by GenArt, a leader in up-and-coming art talent. Each clothing designer was assigned a scent from the Downy Radiance Collection, a new line of designer scented fabric softeners. Using the scent as inspiration, the designers would compete to create a collection of clothes inspired by their assigned scent. Here's the twist - the process was completely interactive with the consumer.

The whole thing kicked off with an awesome party in NYC, where major celebs mingled with designers for the launch of the online reality show.

Once the show launched, designers would film the entire process, from inspiration to the actual building of the garmets, and submit weekly videos that consumers would watch online.

It was a two way street - consumers could create moodboards online, answer poll questions, communicate with the dsigners on their mobiles using twitter, and best of all -  follow the designers' progress by watching weekly videos posted to the site.

In the end, the process was not only collaborative, but incredibly entertaining for the consumer! The designers came out with AMAZING designs and Downy has started the transformation into a beauty brand. Voting is still open for a few more days, so please go check out the clothing lines and vote for your favorite at www.discoveringradiance.com!

life inspires art.:.this is my life

I started out to blog about the video industry. I live it, I breathe it, I should be able to write about it. Then I got to thinking about what actually inspires me.

Life - the places I go, the music I hear, a poster on the subway, a cool outfit I notice in the elevator. So thats that. If I check out a cafe and I think its dope, I'll let you know. If I see a film that made me think, you'll hear about it.

In the end, it's the idea behind the idea that matters, right?
